When we were young, our elders used to order us to pray. We would obey the order and then go to pray. We would find prayer heavy, so we would abandon it. We would hear a sheikh talk about prayer, its importance, and the punishment for abandoning it.
We would go to pray, and find prayer heavy, so we would abandon it.
We thought that those who ordered us to pray did not feel what we felt.
We thought that those who maintained their prayers had a divine gift that we did not possess.
We waited for that divine gift for a long time, until we missed prayer after prayer.
Because we did not solve the root of the problem: why prayer seems heavy.
